I heard about this place from a friend. The price for replacing the hybrid battery is really good. Has anyone heard of it or have experience using their service? TIA.
I would not recommend them or any company selling "repaired" or "remanufactured" battery pack.s. They repair them by replacing failed modules with used modules from other failed packs. Expect to replace again multiple times during their warranty period. Does the warranty cover installation? Many do not. If you are DIY you can get a kit of new cells from @2k1Toaster here for $1600 shipped, It has a 2 year warranty but should last much longer than that. Experts here quit reporting on their tests because it was to boringly good. One expert (@ericbecky ) used it for 3000 miles before loaning it to a customer. I believe it is still functioning like new. The link is in my signature.
I have not seen their name mentioned here (ever) so no rep I can relate. How long do you intend to keep this car?
I would ask a lot of questions. But basically you are going to get what you pay for. If it is cheap (under $1000) it is a cheaply done job. The battery will consist of USED modules from different packs. They may not be matched to one another. They may not be balanced. If it is NEW it will be more expensive (around $2750?) but it will be 100% reliable and last a long time. If you choose to DIY you will save yourself the labor fee. This is important for used packs, since you will likely have to mess with a used battery multiple times.
Link? Website Yelp? Prius Hybrid Battery Of San Jose - Hybrid Car Repair - West San Jose, San Jose, CA - Phone Number - Yelp Physical location? None. Cost? 650+ Warranty? 12k miles / 6 months+ (*unsure what that entails)
$650 for a battery. Clearly it is not new. It says "refurbished". The problem is that refurbished is a very squishy term. Some people open a pack, look at static voltage and simply replace the one module that looks bad, and then send the car on its way. Nothing more. I imagine that is what $650 buys you. But that will be just the beginning of your game of whack a mole. Plan on spending more over and over if you plan on keeping the car longer than the warranty period. Plus you get the added negativity of the possibility that the pack will fail at any time. Not good if you need your car to be reliable.
There’s only one hybrid company I trust in San Jose: Prolong Battery Systems. Extending the life of your hybrid. – Hybrid Automotive Sort of outside what the OP asked, but still relevant. Beware of rebuilt battery packs.
Hmm, sounds like a $650 pack is the "sell your car with a "new" battery and no trouble lights" option. I'm seeing ads like this on my area CL; typically 1 yr warranty.
