Hello, I recently ordered an enphase solar system for my home, it will have a 6 kw solar production and solar 13.5 kw of battery storage. I am planning to acquire a Prius Prime, and to know if the car charger can be inside the solar system or if it needs extra batteries, the installers are asking for the amperage that the Prius Prime uses or draws to charge, either in 110-220 configurations. Thank you, Rafael
Max of 12A if you use the unit provided with the vehicle (and you can select an 8A draw from the vehicle). 15A if you use a level 2 charger.
15 amp at 220v for the level 2 charger. That's 3.3 kilowatts. That will charge the battery from 0% to 100% in just over 2 hours. If it's pulling 3.3 kw for 2.25 hours, that equates to about 7.4 kwh, or 1/2 of your battery capacity. That should not be a big deal, since as long as the sun is shining the solar panels will provide twice the power needed to charge the car. It should work well within your solar setup.
