I ordered a new shower door from Lowe's and when it was ready, I just hopped in my car without a thought to go pick it up. I asked if they thought it would fit into a prius and all the people up at customer service started chuckling. One guy went as far as saying he isn't sure if the shower door would fit in the prius, but the prius would surely fit in his truck. haha! They were really nice, so I am by no means bashing Lowe's. They had me bring the car around to test it out before they print the pick up ticket. Apparently after they print it, it is released from their system and I couldn't leave it with them anymore. Long story short, I removed the head rests from back seat and passenger seat the shower door slid right in!!! I was so thrilled. I didn't have to rent their truck or try to track down a friend with a truck. All the employees were really impressed and started asking about MPG. Hooray!!
I had the same problem before I bought my Prius, as a car it looks so short, I was not seeing how much of the car was available for cargo. My wife had to guide me to the back of the car before I saw what car it was. In a Gen2, you can get 1 ten foot 2 by 4 in 8 foot lumber fits without resting on the dash You can carry a prehung exterior door, but you can't turn your head, you are pressed between the door and the glass.
