According to mechanic there is a blown head gasket (oil leaking to outside) which will cost around 4000-5000 to repair. I read that leaking oil is rarely seen when for head gasket issues. Is the mechanic right?
As far as I know there are no legitimate psychics who can read people’s minds without some background and hints. So far you have provided none besides a pic of oil on an engine. 1. You have a Prius v wagon - not a Prius hatchback? The first is a gen3 in 2016 and the second is a gen4. 2. What are the symptoms that made you take it to the shop? Just oil on the engine or was it running bad on occasional startups? 3. How many miles on the engine? 4. Does it burn oil? The reality is, yes you could have a blown head gasket and you could have oil leaks. Or you could have oil leaks by itself. Oil leaks on gen3 engines usually come from the timing chain cover. Head gaskets usually leak small amounts of coolant into a cylinder and cause rough engine rattling and shaking on occasion. Many have both because they don’t worry about the oil leaks until the head gasket blows.
