Maybe your friendly neigborhood watch guy with the little kiosk at the mall could replace the movement with a better quality one or swap the face with a cheap but more reliable watch? I don't know anything about watch-making so I may well be delusional.
I just located the listing on ebay. The relevant part of the description reads as follows: The watch is a quartz Q&Q watch made by Citizen Corporation with leather band.
