I have a 2014 prius I have never had a problem with it not starting unless it was my key fob battery which we replaced about 6 months ago and haven't had a problem until this last week. We stopped at our local Walmart and when we came back out about 10minutes later my car did not want to start. We had to sit there for a few minutes and tried hitting the power button again and it started fine. I thought it might be my key fob battery the next day I replaced the battery in the fob again and it started up fine no problems for 2 days it was fine started up everytime with no problems. However this morning we went to start our car and it did not want to start again except this time my check engine light was displayed then it went away. After trying to hit the power button again the car started up. There are currently no warning lights or anything on the dash and it still runs great. Just does not want to start at times. Any help with what this could be would be great!!

Do you know the age of the 12 volt battery? Might be going. Check it's voltage with a multimieter, for starters. First thing in the morning. You can do this under the hood; here's a snippet from owner's manual, the jump start terminal:

For a voltage check you need to connect positive (+) and negative (-) meter probes:

Above shows a convenient negative point I use, but any bare metal on the engine or body will also work. Note too: the positive point has conductive copper only on the front face, and non-conductive plastic on the back.

see how hard you have to press the brakes to make the lights come on, that's an override switch.

and don't jab the power button too quickly. step on the brake, then press the button deliberately.
