Seems like the electronics in the dashboard and especially in the digital display (the touchscreen) might be the kind of stuff that should be protected from heat and/or sunlight. A dashboard 'rug' in a light color might help, yes? But a rug wouldn't really shield the digital display screen. Any ideas or advice? Thanks.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(Piscivore\";p=\"41118)</div> NO! I bought and quickly discarded a tan Dashmate. The glare on the windshield at night was horrible. If you are really concerned check Dannys heatshield they work grreat when you are parked.
The "rug mat" or dash cover cannot really shield against heat - it's main purpose is for long term protection against UV damage to the dash. In Oz they were used to stop degradation of the old vynil dash tops, which tended to "split" eventually. I have a "charcoal" coloured cover fitted, held down with velcro, shaped to the dash, with a cutout for the airbag. The best you can do for heat protection is to shield the windscreen with a suitable reflective cover (preferably externally) when parked - keeps the direct heat out of the car at least when parked. They are quite common here in Summer. The Prius really needs a "display hood" of some sort, to minimise the screen washout from direct sunlight - there are times when the screen is completely useless. I haven't experienced a full Oz Summer yet in my Prius - we get into the 40C temperatures quite often then. On the subject of the display, I would prefer the dynamic readings like the Consumption bar to be repeated in the dash, near the speedo etc. - it's the only display bit that is visually useful when driving, reminds me of the old vacuum gauges! kenmac
Danny our erstwhile founder has the heat shield info at: http://priuschat.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2888 They fit great and work very well.
Some dealers now carry a less expensive custom shield that looks like it would work well (I already have the Canvasworks shield and am happy enough with it).
