I want to put a Florida SunPass Mini (sticker-type) in my new Prius 3. The instructions say to stick it on the windshield on one side or the other of the rearview mirror. Are the black dots there part of the antenna system, and if they are, will putting a toll transceiver on (or even near) them mess up either radio reception or functioning of the toll transceiver?
No the black dots are black paint...it just makes the windshield look more defined from the outside. The SunPass is a RFID patch. There will be no problems!
Did you install the Florida SunPass Mini? Where did you locate it on the windshield and is it working? I was looking at one for my Prius.
I was told not to put my toll pass on those black dots by the toll road authority in Houston. However, they may not know what they are talking about. I put mine just under them and have had no issue.
Just put the mini pass under them. The rearview mirror will still pretty much block the view of it from the drivers seat. While the dots probably wouldn't bother the reception, it might make it tougher to stick. I thought the dots were there to provide some blockage of the sun where the visors don't reach. I don't know about defining the windshield. Why are you getting the minipass? I got the larger one so I could take it off when I got on toll roads that exempt hybrids, like the I-95 high speed lanes in Dade and soon Broward and Palm Beach counties. I sure wouldn't want to pay if I didn't have to. I know you can supposedly shield that minipass, but I would rather take it off and put it in my glove box in the shielded bag until I get on the turnpike.
