I have just read this article comparing the Citroen Cactus 1.6 Diesel with Prius I-Tech (our top model with 17" wheels, leather etc). Claimed economy was similar (3.6 l/100km / 3.4 l/100km [that's 69/65 USA MPG]). The real world economy of 103km 50%/50% city/highway driving gave a DASHBOARD DISPLAY of 5.0 vs 4.3. But at the Fuel Pump, real world figures were 5.83 l/100km vs 3.25 l/100km - a substantial WIN BY PRIUS (that's 40MPG US /72MPG US). "Each trip computer was out by 1.0 l/100km, the Toyota’s pessimistic, the Citroen’s optimistic." Read the article - they were very impressed with the Prius. I guess they'll come eventually!! Though at the rate they're taking, we might have Hyundai Ioniq, Peugeot, new Lexus CT and a few other options available. Maybe even a Flux Capacitor variant somewhere in the works.
wow, you want everything? great article, i love the vernacular. comments following are spectacular. still talk of nickel mining? very thorough testing. how are diesel vs gas prices?
For as long as I can remember, Diesel has always been 10-15% more expensive than Petrol (Gas). But when they all dropped maybe 18-24 (?) mths ago, diesel was often cheaper than Gas. Diesel had dropped $1.50/litre to $1.10/litre here - but it's crept up the last couple of weeks to $1.20, but stays relatively static with only small changes. Petrol (Gas) fluctuates wildly - I've seen it go from 0.97 to $1.30 and back again in a week. But it's been creeping up maybe 10% in the last few weeks too. If you can pick your day to fill, you should be able to get Gas cheaper than Diesel (which I can with my little diesel which I get 800km from a tank, so watch fuel prices).
