I know it's been discussed before and the conclusion reached that the rear armrest slopes down to rest on the seat. But I think mine was originally horizontal, cantilivered out from the right seat back. Today I was a back seat passenger, pulled the arm rest out and lowered it. But when I rested my arm on it I felt a clunk and it went down to the seat. I was tempted to open the seat back upholstery to see what broke inside but the snaps were so firm, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to resnap them. Anyone else have this experience?
I can tell you that our '06 goes all the way down to the seat as you described. When I tested it at the dealership prior to our taking delivery of the car, they said it was normal for it to do that. Hope this helps
Omigosh! It now ocurrs to me, the harizontal cantilevered rear armrest was the one in my '96 Camry. What happened, Toyota, did you forget how to do the obvious in your quest for engineering nirvana?
I agree that an armrest slanting like that seems cheap. There might be an ergonomic reason - and I hope someone can explain it to me - but the first impression of most poeple who experience is that of poor engineering even in a car as advanced as the Prius.
my little garfield fits perfectly in there... maybe they make it expressly for garfields. in all seriousness, mine drops too. you could try stuffing something under it to keep it level if you needed it that way for a long trip.
