Just bought a new set of rear brake pads. They came with all the clips but it appears that the shims are already attached permanently. It looks like they have some kind of textured, but smooth and slippery feel to them. Do I just discard the old shims?
Yeah that's how modern pads come now so you don't put the Toyota shims on throw them in a bag or something save them if you feel something's going on The main thing you're concerned with here is the little hardware kit with the little spring steel clips that hold the dog years of the pads and allow them a little bit of bouncing room That's what I usually try to replace but on some of these cars if they're real clean and they're still there and in good shape you can just leave them not a huge deal but shims now come with most good pad sets already mounted what have you they're ready to go on the car no spraying or nothing needed
