i bought a prius that has missing under tray and rear bumper spoiler. so far the car gets 44mph at best. i'm wondering if those missing parts would fill up the 6-7mpg i'm missing? the car is a taxi and i do have taxi sign on the roof but i'm guessing this shouldn't eat this much mpg. i just want to know if it worth buying those parts or not. also it is cold out side and it's hard to keep the engine off. i am going to block the front for keeping the engine warm longer.

well i see people get average 50+mpg with out doing any mode to the car. i know the cold weather has effete, but 7 mpg is a bit too much i think.
My lifetime avg on my Gen 2 when I was still tracking (I'm WAY behind) is ~45 mpg. It used to be ~46 mpg when I was working and had a long commute. Being up in WA state for awhile and having VERY short drives, much of it in cold weather didn't help my lifetime avg at all. Most fuel-efficient cars pegs the Gen 2 Prius at 44 mpg overall. Seriously, if you want fuel economy help, you're going to need answer the questionnaire. And, your mileage gets worse in winter. See Why mileage gets worse in winter | PriusChat. There are also tips there on heater management to keep the ICE from running to provide cabin heat. You can do pulse & glide to get great FE: http://www.cleanmpg.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1224 but you gotta remain below 41 mph for the glide part.
No, thats not too much. I went from 52mpg in warm weather to 41mpg my last tank. I would die to have only a 7mpg hit!!
Ours usually goes from 52 in the summer to 46 in the winter. Now into our 5th winter with the same results each time.
cool guys. well I pumped air in tires and got the car aligned again and now i got 49-50 mpg for the last 50ish miles. i'm so exited. on city i can get it there, but i need to do something for the aero for the highway so i can get it up there where i want it or at least trying to get it there. the funny thing is i thought this car would be so boring to drive because it's slow. i have one fast car and one luxury car. this car may not be as fast or good looking and comfortable as them, but it's fun driving it because i'm always challenged to get the best mpg. with out the display i think this car would have been boring since you can't play with gas to get the max mpg without it.
The under tray (belly pan) and rear spoiler are important for highway speed aerodynamics. Replace those before you start thinking about aftermarket mods. A good set of Energy Saver A/S tires or Ecopia EP422 tires will help raise fuel efficiency and ride comfort. If purchased with the available $70 rebate they are even more economical than cheap generic tires.
52 mpg now with pulse and glide method. it's hard to glide here in stl for long because the city has bunch of hills. oh well still much better than 41 mpg . i'm not going to put aftermarket things on the car because the effect is not that much and i can use this car till 2016 only, so it's important to put stuff on the car that'll be paid for itself and some with in these years.
