    That makes no sense based on the look of the hatch. Is the carbon-mat look just a sticker or something?

    It might be used on newer production, older versions might have the conventional continuous mat fiber technology.

    Russell talks about the rear hatch construction in episode #223 (March 22, 2017) of WhatDrivesUs. In at 44 minutes and they talk about this at length for about ten minutes.
