I have 2011 prius 2. I would like to install a rearview camera. There are several available on e-bay marked specifically for prius. However, they all state gen 2 2006-2009 models. I have a few questions: Can anyone share their experience with those $39/$79 shipped from China cameras? Are they OK in terms of image quality? Is there a significant difference between CCD and CMOS ($39 and $79) variants in your experience? Will camera designed for 2009 prius fit without any mods on 2011 model? I am asking for your subjective opinions and experiences. I know everyone is different. Thanks. Sincerely, Sophie
check out this post: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...62-2005-prius-backup-camera-install-help.html The rear camera does say it fits a 2011. And it works beautiful. NOTE: Pictures are on the 2nd page of the thread.
I bought this one for my 2010 Prius II. Day time quality is excellent and night time is ok. For that price. you cannot beat it. Car Reverse Rear View Backup Camera for Toyota Camry 09 - eBay (item 130398586965 end time Apr-03-11 02:29:07 PDT)
i also got one of the same off of ebay and agree with pretty much everything said above. install was super easy with some patience, a dremel, hot glue gun, and some safety glasses
Since we both have Rosen and same rear camera. Have you ever experienced rear camera is not being detected (Rosen screen shown NOT DEVICE) when you start the car in the middle of the day usally like sunny day. But few minutes later, rear camera working again. I had seem quite a few times in last 3 months.
sorry i havent had that happen to me yet. have you double checked your connections? i know the power and ground wires are like 28awg, which i thought was crazy. i ended up soldering the power wire and grounding on the hatch where the rest of the wires were being grounded behind the camera location. when in the rosen menu, there is a selection for camera to see out the back anytime, can you see it selectively? also, what did you use for the 12v source? i used the acc connector coming out the back of the rosen and routed a 18awg wire to the back
I used 20awg wire for all connections. Yes, I am able to activate rear camera by pressing camera button from menu. I used the acc cable from back of the Rosen unit for camera power source. The problem is intermittent and rear view display again after 5 minutes.
sorry sophie999 for hijacking your thread. us_matrix i havent had that problem before. i tested the car again and kept going into reverse, camera, park, etc and it seems to be okay. im guessing it could be the camera or connections because the rosen keeps looking for the input source each time?
You should read the http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...a-install-cheap-ebay-cameras.html#post1127765 thread. It's not a perfect fit but mine works well. I would recommend the wireless version. Running the camera feed to the front of the car is a pain. The wireless version would avoid that.
Sorry to ask such a simple question but where does the camera results show up? I have a 2010 Gen III, model 2 so it is very basic and I don't have the GPS screen. Will this still work on my Prius?
