The other day my wife borrowed the car and said all she did was touch the rear view mirror and it fell off. Upon inspecting the evidence (and not making any accusations) I found that the little mount or tab that is glued to the windshield is just a piece of cheap plastic and the edges snapped off causing the mirror to break away and fall off. I went to the dealership to buy a new mounting tab but they wanted to sell me the entire mirror. So I went to the nearest Napa store and found a much more superior metal tab with glue and followed the instructions. All is back to normal now but has anyone else have the mirror just break off?
Well played indeed. Reminds me of when DW twisted the shift knob off. It was her first time driving the car. "It was hard to shift and just broke in my hand." "Sure, dear. Lousy Toyota craftsmanship."
Same here! I have a 2011 Prius 4 with 100k miles and the Rear View Mirror BROKE OFF! This happened just driving down the hwy. The actual glass broke - glass came off with the button! I used a "HARD MAN" epoxy that dries relatively clear. You can get a 3 blister pack of "Hard Man" epoxy at most Golf Smith locations or order it online. Golf Club builders use this epoxy to glue Shafts into Club Heads. There is no recall at Toyota or and it will not be covered if gone past the 3yr/36mo. I had a glass company replace using an after market glass for $249. Why would I spend over $1000 to have genuine Toyota glass when it breaks from the weight of a 2 lb Rear View Mirror?
