First day of ownership I took my IV up the Oregon Coast and got 57 mpg. Next day drove to Calif., and then back getting 51mpg. Get 47mpg at 72mph, 52mpg at 65mph, 55mpg at 60mph. These figures are all level freeway for at least 50 miles. Very happy! A problem has developed: I am seeing a red background covering the upper half of the MID when in the sun. As soon as I drive under a tree, it disappears. Sometimes it is the top 3/4 of the display. Talked to the reps at my dealer--they have never heard of this problem, but suggested it could have been programmed because of many gripes from Gen. II owners about screen glare. Anybody out there experiencing these symptoms? By the way, going from a Lexus LS400 to the Prius is great. Actually more comfortable than the Lexus and way more fun to drive. Next
Yep, just spotted that redish purple band you describe, one week into driving my IIIBlueII. It did seem to come and go! Haven't a clue what it is all about. My first thought was a major warning 'light'!?!
Well we are getting no response to this thread. Sure wish some of you experts w/ a lot more experience than myself would comment on this. We are not talking about that small teet or power area on the right end of the HSI but rather a large upper portion of the space behind this gauge. What is it and why is it sometimes visible?
Could it just be a reflection? Direct light scattering through the tinted plastic and appearing to be illuminated?
Yep. I just saw it today. It's the sun shining JUST right, and somehow reflecting the purplish-red color of the display. As soon as I drove under some trees it disappeared.
