RED triangle with no CEL after Hybrid Fan Replacement

A buddy of mine just called and asked me to help him with an issue on his 2007 Gen 2. He had his HV battery replaced 2 years ago and all has been fine. Recently though, the RED triangle came on with NO symptoms and he took it into a shop where they diagnosed the car and told him the HV Battery fan was faulty and needed replacement, they did so and RED light did not go off, they then inspected further and said it was the blue fan relay and after replacing it they told him that was the issue and the RED triangle still remained on. They told him that he had a CHECK HYBRID SYSTEM issue and had to take it back where his battery was installed and they didnt help him further.

He states there is NO CEL or any other lights and just the red triangle and car runs/drives fine as well as battery shows normal operating conditions.

Any suggestions, what I can have him check or help him look at?

 

I totally agree which he did at Autozone but their scanner is basic and showed NO codes present. I was trying to give him DIY checks before he makes the drive to me to use my T10 scanner which should retrieve hybrid codes the Autozone scanners may not.

Update: So this one is a weird one. Buddy had been dealing with this RTOD and I told him to just take the drive here for me to use my T10 scanner. He came and I saw the RTOD on his dash for sure, he shut it off and again it came on. I then hopped on the passenger side to go on a drive…Well, guess what! The light no longer came on, he shut it off and on again and NO light. The process was repeated a few more times and NO more RTOD.

I had initially asked him to check his doors were closed properly as when I 1st got my prius I tried to put it up the driveway with my door open and the RTOD came on and would not go off until I realised closing the door fixed it. So, I asked him if he tried that before coming nd he said no, he also said since the RTOD had come on, no one had open the pass side door. Well, I guess mark this a a fix as he hasn't called me back to tell me it came back on.

Silly but always make sure your doors are fully closed as you could be this guy and be a simple open/close your door and it may solve your issue.

 

I guess not, what other explanation could I have if that was the only thing different thatt happen since he came (someone opening an closing the pass door). It stumps me too but the RTOD has not come back ever since and nothing was done to the car.
