Anyone know if aftermarket remote start systems ever plug into the OBDII port? My OBDII connector is hanging loose and I’m wondering if the remote start installed by the previous owner is the source of this. Does any of the connectors in the picture look OEM?
The question is interesting, but the previous owner knows the answer for sure. We can only guess. Was it or wasn't it? Connected or not connected? Did a lady or a man drive there? Etc.
I doubt the previous owner installed it. One clue is it looks like the OBD2 port is black in my picture, but if the toyota is white, then that would be the one that my finger is touching in the picture.
Those things that are put on for drug addicts and drunks that they have to blow into and all that nonsense sometimes they have to link over to the OBD2 port depending upon the manufacturer there are other devices that can be linked to the OBD2 port 2 like you know the drive safe car insurance crap needs to read things from the car besides just g-forces from something sitting on the dash not kind of thing so there are lots of devices that could be they even make an extension cable so that the OBD2 port that you plug in your tool to is open but there's another one up behind it that's piggybacked in that the court devices are plugged into or what have you look around carefully sometimes the trackers are involved with the OBD2 port also they're all kinds of videos online about it.
I bought this from a middle aged woman, but you never know. I think it might actually be part of the remote start. I didn't give this enough thought before posting. I have the manuf and model on the remote key fob. If I can find it i can verify if it connects to the OBD2. The transmitter says Automate 7115A, but I didn't see a picture of it online.
It is part of the remote start for Clifford Python and other alarm systems Why it needs to plug into the OBD2 port I have no clue but I guess it can do some things from there Python and Clifford would know they make it but it is part of the remote start setup for those vehicles if you buy that option I guess

Nobody knows where all this is installed. You can ask the dealers. Thanks for that info. I called the manufacturer and it sounds like the obd2 connector was most likely added by the installer and is not part of the product. May be part of the immobilizer bypass Even though I don’t plan to use this much… I was mostly worried about a draining battery I have not noticed that yet. I am going to read the manual. It has a car finder option so if the remote has some range it might be a good feature
Yeah all of that Just set up your DVOM to measure parasitic draw and leave it connected and go back and check on it every little bit and see what's really going on and you see what kind of draw you really have throughout the day what have you.
