Today while checking the tire air pressure, I dropped the valve stem cap behind the wheel cover. I waited until I got home, to pry off the wheel cover. It was in there. But to my surprise the cast aluminum spoked wheel looked good. Clean, sleeker look. Something like custom wheels I've seen, The covers have a very busy look. Sorry I didn't take a picture. I did put the cover back on, but I may give a look again. Give it a look and tell us what you think.
My 2009 Gen II (Touring) looks much nicer without the wretched wheel-covers. For pics both with and without see my album - also there are pics of my winter steelies in there somewhere.
You can see mine - as it came from the car-carrier. It didn't have the wheel trims on when I test-drove it. AND with the Wheel Trims on - at hand-over from the salesman. I wonder, looking at the design, if there is any intent with the styling as far as aerodynamics - or just a bit "ODD" to match the rest of the car?
You can buy "hub caps" to cover the small hole in the middle of the wheel (the -hub-, of course), from the dealer or on line. Ask for GII "hub caps". They're on Pearl S. <--
Are the Toyota hub caps (aka "centre caps") really expensive? There are cheaper on EBay? Still, I wish Toyota would just design a decent alloy rim without... I'll stop, going off the rails.
The going rate is $80,00 a set. DIfferent configuration from previous generations caused the spike in price.
That's what they should be charging for a set of the wheel covers, and even that's more than double the going rate for generic. I recall asking about wheel covers from a dealership (for our steel corolla rims with snow tires) and it was ridiculous, something like $100 apiece. I'm sure they only sell them to body shops doing insurance work.
I am sure that this subject has been discussed, but how much of a hit in mileage would the removal of the wheel covers cause? The car does look better without them.
I have never had my covers on, so don't know the delta - but I think negliable difference either way.
I'm an old-fashioned hubcap guy. I actually like the aerodynamic-looking hubcaps on my Three. They're different and unique. (And yes, I've dropped 2 valve caps back there. )
I think the Gen 4 wheel covers look significantly better than the Gen 3 wheel covers. The actual uncovered wheels? As it has always been that's a personal judgement call. I think they look OK. I could probably go with either with a Gen 4.
Posted in another thread, the gen 4 wheel looks very good with the Toyota centercaps: There's a subtle difference between the gen 4 alloy wheels compared to the gen 3/3.5, the spokes are slightly different. Posted via the PriusChat mobile app.
An interesting close-up of part of my Wheel Rim - made in China, but tyres are Japanese. My tyres are Bridgestone Ecopia EP150.
Do you want to sell your 2016 wheel covers? Anyone else who has taken off their wheel covers want to sell them?
