Even at that price, the Toyota service docs totally pay for themselves if you've spent $$,$$$ on a car and you have plans to keep it in top shape. The trouble is (as you can see in that listing), the Helm hardcopies go quickly out of print. I think they are doing much smaller press runs now, because the techinfo downloads are (a) a lot less money, and (b) a lot easier to stick on your phone or tablet and have at hand whenever you need them. Edit: also, if you are downloading, don't stop with the 4 service manual volumes. Also grab the electrical wiring diagram (this is a lot more than the naked diagram it sounds like; it is book-sized and very useful) and especially a thing called the New Car Features Manual. It comes out the year of each new model introduction. It's the book that tells you what all is there and how it's supposed to work; the other manuals kind of assume you've seen that. -Chap
So, how many megabytes in total to download the entire collection in electronic form? Are they all pdf files? Or what? Thanks!
The one I've got is around 175 megabytes. It's a very terse, unfriendly tome, btw. Lots of useful info, but the writers could really use a shake up. I've purchased (paper) Honda manuals from Helm, or direct from a dealership, maybe 4 times. They always manage to get it into ONE book, and it's more down-to-earth, better organized. By no means perfect, but better. And they're around $100, as opposed to $250 times four.
Can I just double check that the techinfo site definitely has the workshop manual for the gen 3 prius? I'm based in the UK and the link for the EU site comes up with no repair manuals for the gen 3, and it would appear the US site only has a dismantling manual...and normal user manual. Any other places where I can get a genuine workshop manual download?
You must subscribe to the Toyota sites if you wish to access the factory repair manual. While you are at it, also look at the New Car Features manual for the 2010 model year. Subsequent model year versions will just show the changes from 2010.
