Hello All, I've recently moved from a 2009 Prius to a 2017 Prius. For the older car I had a 3rd party book by Bently, I believe (I don't have the book anymore... it went with the car to my son). Is there a good book out there like that for the 4th generation? Chilton? Other?
The Bentley book got a decent review on PriusChat's service information wiki page, but didn't sound like it was available for later generations.
I don’t know of a printed book on maintenance and repair of fourth-generation Prius cars, much less one that would be a substitute for the Repair Manual, New Car Features, and Electrical Wiring Diagram published electronically by Toyota and others. I discussed why publishers may not be interested in a previous thread.
I think that as cars have become more complicated, the printed repair books were giving less and less information. I've got the Owner's Manual for Dad's 1949 Austin - and it showed many maintenance tasks. I've got a Repair Manual for a 1965 Austin - and it has details on how to fully tear down the car apart from part of the Auto Transmission. But the Manual for my last car, a Diesel Fiesta is the same size as the Austin manual, though the car is far more complex - and didn't go into detail on all aspects of the car - maybe assuming that it's not in the realm of a DIY mechanic.
You might check your local library. My local library has electronic access to the Chilton library. I just enter my library credentials through my local library's website and I can view an online version of Chilton's repair and maintenance resources.
