I have a 2012 Prius 2 with 105k miles. My dealer has informed me the main gasket is leaking and needs to be replaced. I will get a second opinion on this but I have been told by a few different shops that the cost is @1800. If the gasket needs replaced in truth then I was thinking of perhaps having a rebuild done. My reasoning is the car was bought used from a car rental company so chances are it was used hard and not well maintained. Is this sound reasoning? If so what is the expected cost to rebuild the engine vs the gasket repair. I am in the Dallas TX area.
Toyota of Plano. I believe it was the main head gasket. I was warned if it failed there would be massive oil loss. I have misplaced the receipt so I don't recall exactly what it was called.
any symptoms? burning any oil? many gen 3's have had head gasket failure due to egr and intake manifold clogging. most have been 2010 and 2011, but 2012 is next on the list at 100k i suppose.
