I have 2010 Prius base model with 164K miles on it. Dealer asked me to get following things changed 1. Perform Transmission fluid exchange service 2. Perform Cooling System Service 3. Spark plugs 4 cycl Prius with cowl removal (alignment due by mileage) 4. Replace both front sway-bar links 5. Perform cabin filter with ZAK Vent Treatment 6. Perform Air conditioning system service 7. Perform Break system fluid exchange 8. Decarbonizing service 9. Fuel injection service 10. Clean and service Throttle body estimated total is coming to 2.1K for all services. Repair person said that first 4 needs to be performed, which comes to 1050$. I want to find out, if these needs to be absolutely performed, which would be preferably performed at dealership and which can be performed at local repair shop at cheaper price. Any recommendations, I live in Plano Tx Thank you Nate
welcome! not knowing what services you have already performed over the 164k, it is impossible to say. how long have you owned it in miles? do you know the service history? 164k is not a regular service interval of any kind. all of those services can be performed by a conscientious mechanic, except for the a/c possibly.
Thank you bisco, I bought this vehicle new and never performed any major services, except for break pads, tires, oil changes, etc
oh boy. do you have the owners manual maintenance schedule? if not, sign up at toyota.com/owners and there's an on line version. the major comes at 100-120k iirc. use their list, not the dealers. 1) the tranny fluid is a good idea if you're going to keep the car, although toyota calls it lifetime, which simply means when it dies, it's at the end of life. 2) absolutely, both engine and inverter loops 3) should have been done at the major. alignment go by tire wear 4) same as alignment, very possible at your mileage 5) cabin filter inspect/clean/replace every 15k. you can do this and save a ton 6) probably a good idea, especially in texas 7) yes 8) not sure what they mean, but you should research the egr circuit here and @NutzAboutBolts youtube channel. most dealers don't know about the clogging issue, but it can blow your headgasket 9) meh 10) yes as to which are most important, start with the toyota schedule. if you can dind a local mech with good reputation and especially hybrids, they are generally a lot cheaper. talk to matt at texas hybrids. he's a battery and combo meter guy, but may be able to steer you in the right direction.
Are we to assume that you still have the original HV battery in place ?' IF the HV battery needs to be replaced in the next year.....at a cost of maybe $1000, will you still keep the car ?? I would be suspicious of 1,4,8 and 9 just in general. You can do your own "injector service" by putting Techron injector cleaner in the gas.
