On our summer vacation, a passing logging truck tossed a stick at me. Fortunately, I saw it coming, and swerved just enough that it hit the side mirror and not the windshield. So, I need to replace the housing, providing I can do that without having to buy the whole assembly. The insides of the mirror seem to be ok - everything still works. I'm assuming I can get the parts from Toyota, though maybe not right away. Any pointers on how to take apart the mirror and replace the housing? Thanks.
Hmm, PM naterprius. He might be able to help since he recently installed JDM side mirrors. He might know a thing or two.
Hi. Thanks for the responses. To answer your questions, yes, the damage is covered by insurance, but the deductible is $300 and the repair estimate is $100. I thought I might save some money and learn something by doing it myself. Yes, it's silver (hence the user name, and the plate 'HYO' ) And yes, I will pm naterprius...as soon as I figure out how.
silver PN LH 87945-68010-B3 RH 87915-68010-B3 I'd check and confirm those numbers but they are the ones I have for Silver.
Interesting, Frank. The repair quote notes 8794568010A1 for the left, but it also says 'call dealer for exact part number and price', so you may well be right. It also says $2.71 for shop material, whatever that is, and $37.87 for labour. I guess my next step is to call the dealer.
-A1 is white according to my list. Shop supplies are a percentage of the labour normally. $37.87 sounds like 1/2 hour of labour at the normal charge out of $75.75 per hour. if your on the lower mainland Regency body shop is the only place I'd take a Prius.
Thanks. I'm sure I'd prefer silver to white. I take it there's no actual shop supplies involved in this particular repair, just a charge for them? Is this Regency body shop any relation to Regency used cars? I once made the mistake of buying a used car from a place in North Vancouver called Regency, and will never deal with them again. Or buy another Subaru, but that's another story.
It used to be part of the Regency Group but I've noticed that they don't use that name anymore. They are the ones that did the major repair on the wife's Prius and then the front bumper on mine and again the rear bumper on her's. Colour match is perfect. and the fit and trim are perfect as well. I've been around the auto industry for about 40 years and they have demonstrated that they do high quality work. No I don't work for them but I work for a Toyota dealer, forklifts that is.
