Had no heat so brought to my mechanic. There were zero codes on dash but his scanner, one of the more pricier ones, picked up a P1121 for a coolant control valve. Price was around $85 at dealership. He extracted it in 10 minutes --- from the top --- just removing the bolts and hose clamps. I was shocked as every thread I came across said it was a difficult job and took a lot of time. This thread is a DIY tutorial and says it's a 4-6 hour job! There was another thread where someone said he has done advanced repairs himself including rebuilding battery and called the control valve the hardest job he's done I took some pics of the tools he used but it was basically 10 minutes off and a few minutes longer to put back on. Hopefully this saves someone time...The long extension was only used one time for reinstalling that one side bolt....The tool that seemed to come in really handy was the flexible long reach hose clamp pliers. But from my point of view (just observing) there really wasn't anything difficult. In the tight space provided he was able to twist out the valve....when he reinstalled he removed the 2 bolts for the mounting bracket which he said made it easier sliding back in. He also did the thermostat, and again, from my point of view....the thermostat had harder to reach bolts and was a little bit lengthier of a process. Shops estimate called for 2 hours on thermostat it's really a 45 minute job tops. I have no idea what it calls for on the valve but doing it this way it takes 25 minutes.
