I need to replace the passenger rear door window. I have found some places that will be able to replace it. The question I have is: Does Toyota Service have to replace the window to keep the warranty intact? If I get the window replaced elsewhere will it void the warranty? Any info will be appreciated.
Not quite on the topic.... but talking about the windshield... What are those dots in the upper area around the top by the rearview mirror??
1. an aftermarket source uses lower quality glass. 2. if you have any issues with something at that door, (internal workings) you could run into some turbulence with warranty repairs on it. the replacement will be obviously non-toyota. 3. windows aren't too expensive to replace at the dealer- a couple hundred and an hour's labor or 2 to install. i guess that depends on your definition of expensive... but it may be worth it. as far as DH knows, the dots are for blocking the sun between the flip visors. nothing more.
Don't all of the windows have a kind of tint? If you replace it with non-Toyota parts....don't you risk the window looking different than the others, if not now then maybe down the road? I'd call around to different dealers and compare prices before going non. If the other places will use a guaranteed Toyota part, then you're just comparing labor.
Are you getting an insurance covered repair of your glass? That is an important question because insurance companies often times work with glass specialists with regard to insurance billing. I've only seen a few dealerships accross all brands of vehicles that had a dedicated glass shop and specialist and worked with insurance companies like a private glass shop would. Most private glass installers do not use factory glass, but use PPG or another general auto glass manufacturer. A reputable glass shop will use equivilant glass, in terms of quality, composition, tint and special features. I've had a couple of vehicles, that required windshields and went to private glass shops and have been totally satisified with the service, and quality of materials. Find a good shop to do the work. Your expeience may vary. Hopefully it is positive.
I work at Dow Automotive which specializes in adhesives such as window to body. the dots are called Frit and it helps in the process of bonding the glass to the primer to the urethane to the body primer to the body.
