Report: Fuel economy standards could add up to $15K to price of heavy-duty pickups — Autoblog Green The comments at Heavy-Duty Pickup Prices Could Increase Nearly $15,000 to Meet MPG Standards - PickupTrucks.com News aren't terribly surprising.
Did anyone click through to that $56,000 truck? Leather seats, wood paneling, heated/cooled seats.. It starts at $27,500. The engine option they refer to is $8,000.
If you look at the big ticket item that pushes the price up its the hybridization at $9000. The PSD is not appropriate as these trucks need to be able to tow, but $9K is a crazy high number. If you look at the 4WD hybrid system of the Lexus RX, its a premium of $4K, which will be paid back with fuel savings. Using a different system a 4wd heavy duty truck may be a much better buy than its gasoline or diesel competitor.
Gee ... it would be a darn shame ... wouldn't it? ... all those people with a little napoleon complex ... not being able to afford an oversized ride just boost their egos. What's the world coming to ... I think I'm going to cry them a river. .
