REPORT: GM may try selling Chevy Volt on eBay — Autoblog Green I guess maybe some Volt fan boys/early adopters might bite but I sure wouldn't want the first ones off the line knowing GM's reputation for long term reliability.
Won't this piss of the remaining dealers that gm has? Selling it on ebay would cut the dealers out of the equation and would mean gm would be selling directly to consumers. GM is already on shaky ground as it is with their dealers. I can only see this as straining the relationship even more. If the ebay selling does well gm could turn around and start doing that to all the cars they produce. Only thing gm needs is a lot with cars and a couple of attendants when the customer comes to pick up his/her car they won on ebay.
This test sale just spotted...... 2010 Chevy Volt Concept Die Cast Model 1:32 Chevrolet - eBay (item 150360401349 end time Jul-27-09 10:03:43 PDT) This should give GM a geneal indication of consumer interest!!!
More marketing buzz unlease GM is going to be able to get around all the state franchise laws. They may be able to do it with the prototype & preproduction vehicles. Here's your chance to buy 1 of 75 engineering prototypes. No warranty. Buyer picks up at GM HQ or test facility or arranges for delivery.
Well, the article *does* specifically mention dealers doing this with certified used vehicles. Maybe it's the actual dealers that will be doing this with the new vehicles?
I did read that it *does * mention that dealers do that with used cars, but dealers also do it with new cars. I can go on ebay right now and find brand new cars from dealerships. The way the article is worded it gives the impression that GM itself would be selling the cars not the dealers. The way at the end which did mention the dealers seemed separate.
