Report: Nissan developing a hybrid version of the Z? — Autoblog Green When I was at Tokyo Motor Show, I did see the li-ion pack pack for the Nissan Fuga (aka Infiniti M here) hybrid and it was MUCH smaller than the one you'd find in the back of a Prius or NAH. It's pictured at Tokyo 2009: 2010 Nissan Fuga Hybrid -- Autoblog. The picture from the other side gives a weird perspective and makes it look quite large. I think it's more logical they'd use the above RWD system developed in house from the start than something suggested by someone who doesn't know much about the FWD NAH in the comments. I doubt Carlos Ghosn wants to pay Toyota even more money and develop this one off car somehow modifying the powertrain to work in a RWD application, considering the tiny quantities in which the Z sells.
I saw about five articles on this yesterday under a news dot google dot com search for "hybrid," but the reports appear to be speculative at the moment. You, however, appear to have first-handedly witnessed a Nissan Li-Ion battery at the Tokyo autoshow. Thanks for the additional info. A Nissan Z hybrid would be awesome. A plug-in would be SOLD!
It has also been rumored that they are developing a hybrid system for the vaunted GT-R. 2013 Nissan GT-R Hybrid in the Works
Could be a mild hybrid system. The Li-Ion battery in the S400 Hybrid is tiny. it's about the size of a 12V battery.
