well... i know this is a very popular subject since i'm pretty sure this beep annoys everyone equally. i have read on a few places on this forum that you could customize the beeping to only one beep but that it had to be done at the dealer. well this is true... ...and false! i guess it only works on certain type of cars. i went to the dealer today, and of course, they told me it couldn't be done. because so many people did it on their prius, i argued... and got proved wrong! even thought the manual states that the two settings are: beep repeatedly or beep once, i saw the two settings that actually were in the computer, and even tried them both. the only option for my car were beep repeatedly, or one long continuous beep that doesn't stop! so i guess it must depend on the type of car... i was rather disapointed about it, but i guess there is nothing i can do! just thought it would be nice to let other people know... especially my fellow canadians!
LOL! Been there, seen that. The continuous beep is triggered by going into reverse with the driver's door open. Close the door and the "one beep mode" works.
I have the same solution for the annoying back up beep (why the *beeep* is it on the inside, but not the outside?!) that I do for solving the 'too quiet' complaint in parking lots: just turn up the stereo.
You sure the driver's door wasn't opened? That would result in a long continuous beep if you shifted into Reverse. I would go back and change it to the one beep and shift into Reverse when the door is closed. My guess is that the constant beeping overrides the "door ajar w/ Reverse engaged" beep. But with only one beep, it'll either just beep once followed by the long continuous beep or it just got overridden by the long beep.
thx for the info, i brought all this thread to the dealership, and they are willing to try it again... ... ...next week! lol i guess 2 minutes to check it is too long if you don't have an appointment. so i'll keep you updated after the next appointment! ;-)
Sounds good. All vehicles are built the same (or they should be... barring any minor production issues that vary from car to car).
