LONDON - British scientists are developing a robot that will generate its own power by eating flies. The idea is to produce electricity by catching flies and digesting them in special fuel cells that will break down sugar in the insects' skeletons and release electrons that will drive an electric current. I think it will be a while before we see an insect powered car!
Hmmm. How much energy in a fly? What is the required fly density for proper operation? Sounds like a typical "ivory tower" waste of grant (er tax) money.
So how long until they come out with a Pri that runs off sparrows? Can they teach it to catch them by itself? Do I have to toss it a couple of pigeons before a long trip? "Stay away Junior, that car bites." "Hey Buddy, don't park your Ford so close, my tank is a little low." Detroit eat your heart out...
