Worth a chat? From tree sap to car tires etc.

The species came from Amazon, now grown widely in the tropics, a real strategy issue in WWII.

Grown in southern China also, and now the Cambodian situation appears newsworthy:

Alarm over 'timber grab' from Cambodia's protected forests - BBC News

Rubber commodity value really jumped a few years back, and the planted area followed. Now, prices are in the tank and some people wonder whether chasing a market (any market) is the right thing to do with extensive forest resources.

    Rubber Plantations

I should stop answering this entire class of questions. Ultimately by doing so, I do harm to Bisco et al.

So, a new tack: Nope, that never happened.

A LOT of tropical forests have been cleared to chase the 2009-2010 rubber price run up.One can only hope that these efforts will benefit local folks, because these new 'as if' forests are something less then their priors.
