Is it safe to rev the engine while in inspection mode (forced idle). Someone has a question about checking for valve noise in the top thread about common 2G problems in the maintenance discussion, and I unsure about giving advice concerning revving the engine via the throttle motor. I will mention, I suppose, the check engine light will turn on. link (forced idle) from Prius base idle Edit' inspection mode is actually more complicated, found a description at this link http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-prius-main-forum/71580-cant-get-inspection-mode.html End edit idle motor Prius TPS where hobbit describes 'and feel the ECM actively fight you when you try to turn the flap.' so is this ....something I should not do?
Check this out, the cars were run in the inspection mode... which is not say it's a good thing to do, just that is has been done: More discussion in this thread.
It is safe to rev the engine, and you will find that the speed will only be around 2,500 rpm. The check engine light will not come on. Instead the master warning light will turn on and the hybrid vehicle icon will appear in the MFD. Yes, I would not try to turn the throttle valve while it is being controlled by the throttle motor.
