Sandy Munro is my 'go to' guy about cars and manufacturing. Recently, he attended a seminar: Engineering porn, I was introduced to: I see this a bridge technology for making small parts. Whether it ever achieves the ability to make large parts at an acceptable rate remains an open question. Regardless, I am impressed by the process and Sandy says it makes great magnesium parts. Interesting technology using magnesium alloys first made under the trade name Elektron. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elektron_(alloy) If it is to be used for cylinder bores for hydraulic cylinders, I wonder about it's long term failure rate. Even with modern advanced technology, Toyota still experiences a sizeable long term failure rate with aluminum castings on it's brake booster and master cylinders. The failure of the silicon infused aluminum block of the Chevrolet Vega engine of the 1970's is legendary.
