Syria Civil War: What to Know About the Conflict and the Rebel Groups - The New York Times SO. Why does this matter? Beginning in early 2016 (ish... )we put boots on the ground in Syria following a 'red line' that was drawn by an amateur artist. (Al Tamf - 'about 500' troops according to OS info) THAT started because of 2011's 'not so silent Spring.' Why does this matter? Two reasons! 1. Americans are poor historians who think in 4-8year gulps. 2. We never seem to understand that the enemy of our enemy is ONLY our enemy's enemy.
I have a lot of sympathy for the Kurds who have been screwed over by pretty much everyone in the area. For good reasons, the Turks hate them. But I have no problem with giving the Kurds "Ukrainian" gifts. Bob Wilson
'Pends on which Kurds we're talking about. There are about 10 million of 'em, and some of them are a little too Sunni for me, personally. The YPJ are one of the 'Commie Kurd' groups, consisting of all (real, biological) female fighters. They famously used surplus Rooskie rockets to great effect against the Turkeys - who (foolishly) didn't read the manual that came with their Leopard 2 tanks. We have close ties with the Peshmerga Kurds - and yeah. I'd give them some stuff - AFTER WE GET OUR TROOPS OUT.
