Saw this on the freeway on-ramp today. Prius and a medium SUV collision (possibly CR-V). Both vehicles totaled, but drivers appeared to have walked away with no major injuries. Front end of Prius looks pretty bad but the cabin seems like it was not affected to a great degree...
I know! It looks like a 2010 or 2011. Driver was a male. Female was driving the SUV. I wonder how it all transpired...
Or perhaps the accident happened on the closest lane to the right and the vehicles collided, spun out of control and landed on the side, at the ramp outlet.... I know I always have trouble merging on that entrance. People drive like mad and it's a tough one, specially on ECO mode...
Lol! I wonder how many miles were on her.. I saw another Prius, Gen 2, on the same freeway speeding and with blue smoke on the exhaust. The million mile Prius perhaps? My 2008 has 275K miles and barely consumes oil!
The front end is a crumple zone. Just before joining here I saw one similar out front at a local wrecker. https://priuschat.com/media/img_5139_69191-jpg.4447/full
Yep. Back in the old days, I saw a fatal accident involving a 1978 Chevy Malibu. The occupants were laying on the side of the road with a white blanket over them, while the car was pretty much intact. Certainly repairable...
That certainly looks like the Prius rear ended a stationary car. I've seen these metered on ramps where people were too busy looking at approaching traffic (over their left shoulder) to notice the car stopped at the metering light. All it takes is a split second ( where you face forward to see a green light and no brake lights ) to plow into the car doing only a few miles per hour.
Must have been going pretty fast. I just don't get why some folks drive the Prius and defy the whole purpose of it. Crazy!
In another picture I took, you can see part of the SUV with front end damage and driver airbag deployed. So it appears it wasn't a simple case of the Prius slamming into the other car...
If both appear to have head-on damage, then one was likely going the wrong way. But we are seeing only a very tiny slice of the total forensic evidence.
I recall seeing damage on the side of the SUV as I drove past it, and the Prius damage was mostly on the front. Now something must have struck the SUV on the front as well to deploy the airbags...
