...is not just about environmental topics. In fact the websites discussed in the link have much more breadth.

But, if any of you want to know one's groups opinion about the best explanations of science for the public

RealClearScience - Top 10 Science News Sites - Science Journalism

None of the sites specializing in climate subjects make the list, which suits me. We should all not be narrow.

I had to take a pause at "Popular Science" reference but it is reasonable list. The problem with credible journalism and the business model remains and I don't have a good answer.

As I was told in a lecture about the topic, the most read site on science related matters is "what's up with that". People have turned to the blogs which are full of misinformation. Then again at top of the list they put bbc news, which the last time I saw it was also full of misinformation. It is pretty clear that print and television media have failed the general public.

In a survey of the american public when asked to name a scientist the top three were Albert Einstein, Al Gore, and Bill Gates. A dead one, and two that aren't scientists. Most american's seem to know more about North West and prince George than about science.

If one chooses to read JoNova (or Greenpeace) who am I to complain?

One interesting aspect of BBC science coverage is that they accept (moderated) feedback on many stories. That is not the case for all the 10 listed in the first link.

Private feedback to the site writers/editors always has the potential to improve content. Published feedback often leads to internet fights, diluting the constructive aspects.

PriusChat, in contrast, is remarkably civil, which makes it appealing.

No problem with that. But if one chooses the BBC to be impartial and scientific, it often is neither. I was suprised to see it in any #1 list, other than #1 british network, or best original British television programs. To be fair, the competition is so poor that it does likely belong somewhere in the top 10.

Nature is truely a scientific Journal. Wired, although quite uneven, has guest columnist that are often quite good.
