Anyone else run into this? Where you pull up and then lever down the safety plug, and it won't "shift" internally like it's supposed to, and the metal just bends? I'd had that problem for a little while, but was usually able to finagle it out somehow. Tried again today and the plastic snapped. I have no idea how to get it out now because while the lever goes down easy, it's no longer turning whatever it has to turn to release it. Pretty lame, I know, but if anyone has any pointers, I'm all ears. Thank you
While I see this was over a year ago, I've just done the same thing but so far I am not finding a solution. My is broke on the bottom latch, so when swinging the pull out, it doesn't automatically release it from the battery.
So, since no one has posted as yet to this particular thread, I will post my situation and, if I am still alive to tell the story, my conclusion . I heard a loud "bump" (some may call it a bang) in the back while driving one night. It sounded and felt like a bowling ball hitting the back of back seat after coming to an abrupt stop. I could not even imagine what it might've been but I knew I didn't run anything over. A little over a week later, driving down the highway, the check hybrid system warning came on and there was no power. I couldn't even shift it into neutral to push the car. Coincidentally the car was (and still is) very low on gas. On forum I read said said sometimes the gauge goes bad and it may throw codes like the battery is bad. I have yet to diagnose that. However, when trying to reset the check hybrid system warning, meaning pulling the HV safety service fuse from the battery, and the cable in the fuse panel under the hood (can't think of the name of that) I didn't even get the service fuse out before the latch on the fuse broke, leaving the fuse stuck inside the housing. No matter how much I tugged, pulled, and tapped around the thing it simply will not budge, which is why the latch broke. So far, I have broken all of the housing off the fuse and it still will not let go. My guess so far, is that the bump I heard was maybe some arching in and around that fuse like maybe for a while I've been driving it with the latch not fully clicked in place. It feels like it's welded to the sockets the fuse sits into. I dont know. The service plug itself has 2 metal prongs that slide into the housing. I don't see any evidence of melted plastic or even a smell of electrical burning or anything, which makes me worry as well. I will upload the latest pic I have before pulling this thing off if it is possible. Then I will repost the conclusion. If there are some professional opinions out there I am so welcome to them. I am only a YouTube certified mechanic schooled by necessity. Thank you for reading this post
So, still alive! I got it off. The conclusion? It was super STUBBORN! No corrosion, no welding, no nothing. Had to pry off but it did come off. Now, I'm still in the dark on the sound, the reason for check hybrid light and the need for new parts.
Mine is also stuck now. I can't get it to release from the battery. How did you pry it off? I might have to do the same, looks like, but I don't want to go poking around blindly. Any tips on how you got it out safely?
I'm not sure, if I should ask this... But... Are you pulling the handle to the back of the car? You know it for sure, but I write it anyway... One should slide the handle to the left and afterward pull it to the back of the car... Again - I'm sure, you know that...
