shop put 5 quarts oil in my car

    hi

    i just got oil change, shop put in 5 quarts instead 4.5 quarts, is it ok or should I tell them to take out 1/2 quart? will mpg going to lose some?

    Use the dipstick, check the level. If it is above the maximum fill line (second dot), you need to drain some. Simple as that.

    I only put 3.75 quarts in mine so I would be having them take a bit more out.

    I would drain it out until its either on the 2nd dot or between the min and max dot, it can cause problems for your vehicle if its overfilled.

    i've never seen an mpg problem with upto 1/8" over top dot.

    The top dot is the max fill line. If it is over max fill, it is overfilled. Easy to just suck some up the dipstick with $1 worth of aquarium tubing.

    i agree, but i never saw any short or long term ramifications.
