So right now the Prius is worth a fair amount around 8-10k for this mileage. but I need about 6k in maintenance I have done a lot of preventative maintenance but I know I need a new HV battery soon according to Dr Prius, head gasket. I would install this myself of course but I guess I’m just apprehensive to keep 2010 Prius because I’m afraid that with the clear peeling on the roof and front bumper needing repainting that it will make my maintenance cost even higher. I’m not will to accept driving a car looking shabby on the exterior. so I’m considering other cars that are newer, have better handling and styling with rims. Basically a sportier car in which I will have worst mpg
And Rims .. yep sell car .. and get one with rims. Head gaskets or something you wouldn't want to do replace the engine save yourself a lot of hubbub but you're going to sell so don't worry with that someone else will replace the head gasket and then blow the engine and then go round and round it'll be a $40,000 car for you know it
dump it like a cheap suitcase, buy the lowest mpg vehicle at the best value and reconsider everything when gas prices come down and prius supplies go up
Kinda surprised by these responses lol, was expecting the opposite, but considering these 3rd gen issues I can see why tbh. I would t recommend these cars unless you diy expensive repairs (egr clean, head gasket, battery) which most can’t! as for numbers if anyone is Interested, I’m looking at a Subaru wrx sedan, quite the upgrade and gas isn’t too much more per year given my 8-9k miles per year. Roughly $600 more but the Prius even with the maintenance still comes out way less over a 5 year span
yes, on occasion the ugly cold start rattle will appear for like 1 sec or 2 and disappear. initially before the egr clean and oil catch can install it would rattle for 4 secs or more and i would have to put it in neutral to disengage the engine. this is when i researched the reason and learned of this shitty problem they have. I've checked the compression in the cylinders and they are with in spec except the 1st cyl was about 5psi down but that's it. so yea it could probably be replaced now and i'm putting it off.

Gawd danged . Usually prii you don't do none this till 200K. Other than consumables. But some folks just like to spend money on the car I understand that perfectly. A person that was really in it for the long haul about a Gen 2 in 2006 late six and is still driving it today and is probably had to do very little like my '09 very little of battery the brake actuator . All not retail. Or done at costly places.
not sure i understand what you are saying, perhaps changing spark plugs, and shocks, front sway bar links, should wait till 200k miles? all what I read on here states otherwise, I pretty much did everything by the recommendations on prius chat. only thing I did extra was install trd springs and rear sway bar which helped considerably on the boat like handling lol. OR are you thinking I paid retail to get this stuff done? i DIY everything on this car fyi
Hmm, ♂️ dealer trade, unknowing consumer who wants a hybrid? The car drives good and looks decent, most people don’t understand the costs to own this thing, they just think gas savings which is correct but you have to be driving over 12k miles a year to really notice that savings imo. So to them it’s a 12 year old car with 150k miles with all major services done
Both my gen 3 didn't get much of anything till like 225K . My Gen2 closer to 250K . Gen3 is much less forgiving. Thinner lighter less substantial pieces to save weight etc.
Haha, in my mind I guess I figured it didn’t matter but yea it kinda does right? I can fix and do things to my car because of it, I just not sure the Prius is worth it since I’m not content with the wheels and paint, plus the labor I gotta put to do the Headgasket and battery.
One time a fella got answers to sell his Prius on here without tell us it was his only car. The next time he posted was...he didn’t have a car anymore and took puiblic transit and it was the worse experience ever. The next week he bought a gasser and regretted selling his Prius. Hide information and get wrong answers!
that sounds awesome and how i initially thought of priuses when I first looked into them in 2012. I still read those stories of taxis driving them well over 250k. how I got plagued with a shitty one is just part of getting the first year of a new gen model. anyway i still love my car, it looks sexy despite what people say about priuses, i'm happy with the handling somewhat and driving. I'm just not confident in it's longevity if I fix the HG and battery. Like whats next for me
