Should sales tax be charged on extended warranty?????

    I just looked over my sales receipt (picking car in AM) and noticed the dealership included extended warranty with car price and I am paying sales tax for the warranty?

    Is this normal?? He overcharged me by $900 and I am cancelling extended warranty anyway, but is he ripping me off with sales tax???

    by the way, I live in New York

    Not if he is required to do so by state law. That is part of the beauty of buying the extended warranty through PriusChat, if you live outside Massachusetts, you pay no sales tax on the warranty.

    The extended warranty is like insurance. It is illegal to tax insurance in the state of california. I was not charged sales tax on my warranty here in California.
