No pit stops. Straight from LA to Sacramento This car keeps on surprising me. 80mph at 54-60 mpg (coming back at night, i got 4 mpgs less) most cars struggle to get their rated roughly 30 mpg. and to reach it on the highway they have to drive 55mphs.
If you used charge mode to charge your traction battery while highway driving you could easy get another 20 miles of that on all electric. Increasing your mpg a lot. My Prius prime is saving me more money these high gas price days. I can easily average 75 mpg on a 200 mile trip going on I5 at 75-80 mph.
Interesting commentary on charge mode. I have a 1000 mile trip coming up at end of this week and lots of interstate, but I thought charge mode would have too high a conversion loss to pay off.
Interesting stuff! And pretty impressive. I will be experimenting with charge mode on the Interstate next week when we drive from Tampa to Tucson. Our first long road trip since we got the Prime in March. On a side note, today when I ran out of EV range, I reset by Trip A meter for the remaining 17 miles home. I got 75.7 mpg on mostly country roads. at about 50-54 mph with occasional stops. Just driving normally.
charge mode at highway speed will be an interesting analysis, if it only reduces MPG by 5 for 1 hour, but yields an extra 30 miles of EV range, hmmm, i cant figure out the math right now. this is feeling like an SAT question...if the speed was constant at 60 mph( also assuming 60MPG), its like trading 5 miles of range that hour via gas, to gain 30 miles of range EV.
