Last week I happened to be hiking on Yakushima island, about 1000 km southwest of Tokyo, where Honda maintains a fuel cell research lab. On my third day there I noticed that a Honda driving in front of me appeared to be an electric vehicle: Note the inscriptions "NO!CO2" on the left and "電気自動車" (denki jidohsha = electric car) on the right. It's also marked 屋久島町(Yakushima Town), so it could be owned by or leased to the local city office. The license plate is a local one (鹿児島 = Kagoshima, the prefecture that Yakushima is part of). EDIT: I'm not much of an expert on Honda, but comparing it to pictures in this report: http://www.jhfc.jp/e/data/column/front/03/01.html it may have been one of the FCX fuel cell vehicle prototypes that were reported to have been tested on Yakushima.
