I have this 2013 Prius V 265k miles Prius V I started driving two week ago. Tonight was the first time during rain. The car understeered during a low speed (15 mph maybe) right run and I hit a big pot hole and and barely missed the median. There was also a noise. It sounded like it came from the brakes and sounded like hitting a pot hole (noise happened as I started to slow down and before actually hitting the pot hole). Then at a red light, the car wouldn’t stop and I had the brakes applied fully ( making crunching noises) and almost rear ended somebody. At a left turn, at precisely 16mph that “pot hole hitting” noise happened again and the car slipped a tiny bit also. Tires seem okay. Traction control? Brakes? I know the 2nd gen Prius traction control is dangerous during low traction conditions from multiple posts online...
Sounds like your ABS kicking in. You were either driving beyond the traction of the tires (driving too hard in the rain) or you are smashing down too hard on the brake pedal. Make sure you have good tires and apply pressure earlier and more gradually on the brake pedal. If you hit a pothole and the ABS trips, quickly let off the brake pedal and immediately press down again (but not to the floor.) It takes a while to learn at what point the ABS kicks in, but with practice you can overcome that too.
