Bought a 35kmile 2016 Prius 3 that had fresh water flooding on the outside mostly. All is great just a squeaking noise from both back wheels area. I can reproduce the noise by putting my weight on the car back corners and make it go up and down. It makes the squeeky noise as it goes up and down. The car drives beautifully no shakes or rattles even at 90mph. The dealer I bought is very nice and offered to take care off any major issues in the next 6 months but he is 3 hours drive away so if I can take care of it locally I would rather do that. He said he does not think it's is the shocks it might be stabilizer or bushing. Anything I can check to narrow this down myself? I'm aware of the shocks tsb in 2016. That does not affect my Vin number.
Also check the top strut/shock mount which has to flex as the strut/shock changes length. I would try using a stethoscope to find the "squeek". JeffD
tried to figure it out further over the weekend.. the sound is certainly coming from the LEFT Rear area.. much more pronounced on the inside of the car than from outside that tells me the part making the noise is higher up closer to the cabin than the wheel. the noise is present while driving slow and sometimes it takes like 10 min of driving for the noise to start again.. I was thinking maybe it was raining and the part got wet and not making noise till it dries out.. I can reproduce the noise by jumping up and down on the car when not driving the noise gets better when the rear left weel is closer to the body of the car high up, like when I put the back left on a ramp the noise is very very hard to reproduce. tried spraying few bushings like sway bar the stuff I could reach without removing the wheel and access them from the back of the car.. did not see a difference.. could the spring make the noise? anyway if there are ideas o this would be greatly appreciated.. trying to pinpoint and get as much diagnostic info so when I take it to the mechanic we can pinpoint it faster instead of going the loop of changing everything under till we find it.
on the right rear bumper there are signs of body work, the right rear quarter panel signs of mild body work on the right rear corner left side looks original paint
Maybe got hit in right rear corner, that got all the attention from the bodyshop, but something got bent or a seam opened up, at left corner?? Just thinking aloud.
the noise went away by itself now for 2 days.. not sure if the DW40 I sprayed 3 days ago eventually sipped in the right place but I have a feeling it will come back
I noticed when the car gets wet that is what brings about the noise.. which is weird, usually water makes the noise go away
