I am a counter example: I have an extremely high startle response. I practically hit the roof (figuratively speaking) when there is a sudden loud noise. My mother tells me that as an infant I reacted sharply whenever the doorbell rang. Slamming doors, barking dogs, screaming kids, all make me jump. I repeat, it's an extreme response.

Yet I take progressive (i.e. beyond liberal) stances on the issues mentioned. I strongly favor gun control; I favor an open immigration policy; I view the nation-state as causing far more problems than it solves; I oppose military spending.

I think the thesis of the article is bull.

Your response startled me and I wet myself a little.
