Stopped my Prius dashboard rattle on rough roads Finally got to the bottom of the dashboard rattle when driving over rough road surfaces. The problem manifested itself as a buzz / rattle from the passenger side of the dashboard / middle. However when I pressed down on the plastic dash section just in front of the display (30mm) the rattle stopped. If you feel the dash just infront of the LED display you will feel a joint. This joint can be raised slightly say 2-3mm. I used plumbers pipe lagging foam cut into small strips 5mm wide and pressed this into the joint using a blunt knife. The foam only goes into the joint say 5mm but produces enough tension to stop this annoying buzz / rattle. I inserted the foam strip the full width of the joint. I have now been observing this fix for the past 2 weeks and it seems to have done the job. I hope this helps all you Prius owners that this rattle has annoyed. Mike
Thanks for posting your fix! This may help many Geniii owners relieve their rattle frustration. You've also inspired me to go fix the rattles in my Genii.
Front dash rattle /buzz still gone.... Fingers crossed it never comes back. The pressure caused by the foam pipe rubber is still damping the buzz.:cheer2:
Mine goes to the dealer tomorrow to have the little window removed so they can fix the rattle that way. Toyota came out with a tech bulletin about it with pictures and stuff. Must be a pretty common problem. Maybe this will FINALLY get rid of the noise.
