Help Please. 2012 Prius V 5 Took it in to Valvoline yesterday for a regular oil change and there was confusion resetting the oil change light. Next it was slow to start in drive and go - thought I was stuck there but it turned on fine and drove home. Husband drove it a block or 2 and it stalled out. He said the engine sounded like it would fall out. BUT it reset and he drove it back. Have not much to go off for a sudden issue. Will get codes run BUT does this sound familiar? Bad fuel? Oil issue? Unrelated? Horn recently stopped working. There was a fuel sensor repair covered by a recall that was fixed last year by Toyota.
Check the oil level to be sure it did not all leak out from the filter not being tight or the drain plug leaking. This is the only scenario the oil change guys could be responsible. Sadly, these cars sometimes blow head gaskets and run terrible for awhile and then it will run smooth again, often for the rest of the day and sometimes for many days. If this is the case, the cycle will normally repeat only when the engine is cold UNLESS the engine is losing coolant from the passenger side reservoir. This can then be an advanced head gasket issue. There are normal spark plug or coil issues that can cause severe shaking. But those issues don't reset themselves and allow normal operation. In any case, the best thing to do is to find an independent hybrid shop.
It would be interesting to check the oil level. Maybe too much oil, then getting sucked into intake system ? Used to be a lot of similar problems like this when Gen 2s were getting overfilled with oil.
Based on PQIA Oil analysis of several and my experience of having a vehicle pretty much destroyed by one putting the wrong fluids in the rear end, transmission, and oil. But their excuse was “that’s what our book called for” and our attorney saying “good luck”. NEVER will another one of my vehicles ever enter one of those bays! Ironically, it was in the Texas Hill County!!!! LOL LOL!!!!’
