I picked up my Prius from the body shop last week. While there, I had them go ahead and perform the steering wheel recall. Since then, there's a strange popping noise coming from, I think, the dash area. My husband thinks it sounds like something plastic rubbing up against something else. Do you guys think this is something that will correct itself or should we go digging around in the dash? Thanks!
they do have to remove that lower dash panel to do the steering recall- might have put it back wrong. what'd they do at the body shop? anything to disassemble the dash?
It could be a number of things but one of them is a coiled cable that goes to the air bag in the steering wheel. It could be rubbing on the upper U-joint. Make them fix it. Yes it is painful. I'm so unhappy about this recall mess I even hate to think about it. I now have a crooked steering wheel and a front end that may well be out of alignment. To make things worse the Toyota people TMS USA quit answering us when the questions got hard. Maybe they're just on vacation, or thinking things over.
At the body shop I had my front bumper & grill replaced and my hood repainted. I also had an oil change w/ the recall. It sounds like it's coming from the steering wheel/dash/MFD area and I hear it when the radio & AC are both on & off. It's a crackling popping noise... not very loud, but very annoying. I'll probably drop my car off next Monday for the day and have them poke around in there. I just hate being without my car again.
