My Subaru Outback warranty -- 60K -- is 400 miles from running out. And I need to change the oil. Subaru says to use 0w20 Full Syn, Which I have been doing, But, poking about the web, reading a lot of people who claim once the warranty is up, should switch to 5w30? Thoughts -- it does use nearly a quart in 6K -- depending on the brand of oil. Costco, yep, it burns the quart. Mobil 1, seems to only burn about 16oz. Thoughts -- btw this is written on my BRAND NEW FIBER OPTIC line, -- you can tell the difference, right!
I also have read that the FB engine is fine with 5W-30. I would suggest you try it twice (so you can see it across seasons and have the option to try brand y instead of x) and compare the top-up volume to your 0W-20 history. I see no downside at all. Congrats on the glass, nothing near here yet...
Only harm would be in increased fuel consumption. The question I have is if it would be better to use the thicker oil, why wait until the warranty is expired? A dealer site even says 5w30 is fine if the 0w20 isn't available.
There’s one provider here running fiber optic in the last year. Still, we’ll probably stick with “the devil we know”. This is my phone wifi just now: I’m a little surprised; DL was 50~60, whenever I last checked, maybe a month back. It’s cable tv style (coaxial cable) we’ve got. what is that, gigabytes? Fathoms?? oh wait, motor oil weights?
